We arrived in Petawawa on February 2nd, driving up through a snowstorm for most of the way. That wasn’t fun! We checked into Grey Gables Manor that evening. What a beautiful bed & breakfast! The Kensington Suite was exactly what I had expected from the photos and the hosts were very inviting and accommodating.

We received the keys to our new home just before 5 pm on the 4th, which meant that the following day our truck would arrive to unload everything. Unload Day went fairly quickly; the only issue was a broken patio table. The next day two young men showed up to unpack everything. The unpacking service only requires them to put items on the nearest surface, and when they leave they take with them all the boxes and paper associated with the move.
I’m happy everything was unpacked, but afterward the house was covered from counter to floor with stuff. And it still is. The only rooms that actually look decent right now are the main floor bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Every other room looks as though a tornado tore through it!

I know it will take time to organize and decorate our home. I can’t believe how much stuff (ie. crap) we have! But right now, all I want to do is relax and read a book.
Tomorrow I work my last shift at JYSK. I will have worked there just shy of 6 years and it feels weird knowing that I am almost finished. I will miss many of my co-workers, especially those who have become good friends. It’s kind of like the end of an era, since I am the last person left of the original crew from when the store first opened. Crazy. The district manager was in today and did our “blue sheet”, which is basically a score sheet for the store. My cash area received 9.5 out of 10, so I can go out on a good note. 🙂
Moving Day is just around the corner. On Wednesday the movers will show up to pack the house; Thursday everything will be loaded onto the truck. And on Friday, after we clean and drop the key off to the lawyer’s office, we will no longer own this old country farmhouse. Then on the weekend we will drive up to Petawawa with the stuff the movers won’t take (liquids, personal items, etc) and check in to Grey Gables Manor Bed & Breakfast until our stuff shows up.
I am both anxious and excited to start our new life up there. But I’m also sad to be leaving behind all my friends and family. I know it’s only a 3 and a half hour drive north, which doesn’t sound very far away, but it certainly feels like we are moving to the ends of the earth. I’m really trying to go into this posting with a positive attitude, otherwise I will be miserable.
On November 30th we started our House Hunting Trip (HHT). I drove up to Petawawa and checked into the Comfort Inn & Suites. Shortly after I arrived Jordan showed up. That was the longest drive I’ve done on my own–3.5 hours–and boy was I ever stiff after getting out of the car! At least I know I can do the drive.
That evening we met our realtor. Throughout the weekend we looked at many homes in the Petawawa, Pembroke, Chalk River, and Deep River areas. Only a couple really appealed to us. We offered on one home but, due to structural issues that were discovered during the inspection, we decided it would be in our best interest not to purchase that house. Luckily there was one other home that we liked and that was in our price range. After a second look through it, we decided to make an offer. The inspection went well and now we have a home to move to in February. 🙂

Yesterday I headed over to JYSK for the half-price drapery event and purchased 6 full rod kits, a pack of finials, 2 long rods on their own, 10 drapery panels, 2 picture frames, and this cool light-up tree for $200. I think I hit the jackpot! Now I’ve got all the rods and curtains I need for the new house.

Christmas is just around the corner! I’m pretty sure I’m finished Ashe’s gift. I just need to pick something up for J.D. and something else for Jordan, and then I’m finished.
I can’t sleep so I decided to back up my Germany photos to my USB drive. I need to clear my camera’s SD card before I leave tomorrow so might as well do that now.
I have a long drive ahead of me tomorrow morning. Heading up to Petawawa to meet my husband and hopefully, within the week, find a house to buy! The closing date on our current home is February 1st, so we need to find something quickly. I plan on taking photos of each house we look at so that I don’t forget what they look like or get them confused.
When I’m back at the end of next week I will start writing my trip report for Germany 2012!
I had just started my Dominican post when my computer died! At first we thought it was the hard drive, but after talking to someone at work we figured out that it was the power supply. My husband brought me to Canada Computers downtown and we purchased a much better power supply. After installation, my computer was back to normal and would actually turn on. I was going crazy without my computer!
Now that I’m back, though, I’m going to be even more busy. We have recently received our posting message, which means we have until July to sell our house and buy a new one in our new location. I’m already stressed out trying to get the house in decent order. I feel like it’s a complete write-off, with stuff EVERYWHERE. Trying to purge, get rid of junk that we haven’t used since moving here, etc.
In other news, my nephew is almost 9 months old! He is starting to stand on his own for short periods of time. Uh oh! And he loves to play in curtains.

I have also decided to participate in fatmumslim’s April photo challenge on Instagram.
April's photo challenge
April 1st - "Your reflection"
April 2nd - "Colour"
Hopefully I can keep up with this, even if I’m late to posting the photos on here. 🙂
