Like the inside of a rose *

I realize I haven’t written since the beginning of July when my nephew was born. He’s just over four weeks old now and both mother and baby are doing very well. I can’t get enough of just holding him and watching his facial expressions. He makes the funniest faces!

I never even mentioned my birthday last month. I’m 29 now, which is scary. A few friends and family members went out to dinner at The Copper Penny with Jordan and I. The food was great, like usual, and I had a free dessert.

Free birthday dessert

In other news, our Corolla is gone and we just have the truck now. Jordan wrecked the back-end of the car and bent the frame backing into a ditch. And he’ll be deploying in a few weeks. We’re not sure yet how long he will be away for.

August 1st marked our two-year wedding anniversary. 🙂

Stacey & Chris’s Wedding

It has been too long since I posted last! Stacey & Chris’s wedding at the end of July went off without a hitch. The wedding itself was in a beautiful church. The weather held out, although it did sprinkle a little when we tried to take photos outside after we girls got dressed, but the pictures did turn out fabulous. I managed to get some nice shots as well, although I don’t have any of the ceremony, obviously, since I was a bridesmaid.

Hanging out in a small town

I had a great time spending the Friday and Saturday in Stacey’s hometown. Erin and I drive down the Friday afternoon and we ate ice cream by the water, saw what sights there are in the little town, and hung out with the whole wedding party at a Tim Horton’s in the back of black Dodge Ram!

Some of my favourite pictures from the wedding:

In other news, Jordan sent me a new camera for my birthday and our first wedding anniversary. I absolutely love the camera and I tested it out at Stacey’s wedding. It has great features and worked like a charm!

And our trip to Europe is now completely booked. I am relieved to have that all finished, but I’m still anxious to get going! I’ve already typed up a packing list, bought new black walking shoes, and figured out what I’m going to wear on the flight. If I could, I would say goodbye to summer and fast forward to fall so that I could be with my husband. 🙂

Staff party and Cuban pork

Figures it would snow on the first of December! By the looks of it, the snow has just about melted away and it’s not even noon. A bit of a relief, as this will be my first winter driving.

I had planned to go out to do some Christmas shopping today but I woke up with my neck hurting if I turn my head in either direction. May postpone shopping until tomorrow. I need to make up a gift list and plan out what stores to go to.

Dinner is in the slow cooker: Cuban pork tortilla roll-ups. Basically it’s pork marinated in lime juice, grapefruit juice, fresh garlic, and spices, layered over onions. Once it’s cooked, I’ll shred it so that we can make wraps with lettuce and tomato. I’ve never made it before but it smells really good. If it turns out, might invite Dad over for dinner!

Sunday night we celebrated our staff party at Raxx. Dinner was roast beef with glazed carrots and potatoes or chicken souvlaki with rice, flatbread, and dipping sauce. Jordan had the beef; I had the chicken. Had fun taking pictures, hanging out with everybody, watching people play pool, etc. Most of us dressed up nicely. I wore my pink V-neck sweater and the gold and diamond heart necklace Jordan gave me right before the party, for our four-month wedding anniversary (which is actually today). 🙂

The one with the gag-worthy stench

Just sitting here drinking a mug of tea. I ran out of tea bags two days ago and I have been dying for my daily dosage and now I’m enjoying a lovely tea. 🙂

I have been off work for a week, simply for the sake of not having to work during this slow time. Originally I had booked some of the last few days off so that I could spend time with Jordan during his birthday and our two year anniversary. However, plan went out window, because work sent him to Florida. Florida! Gah. Frustrating. But anyway, now he’s home, and I baked him a birthday cake, and we cuddled and watched an episode of “The Tudors: Season 1”.

We have a really disgusting smell in the apartment, and trust me, it has nothing to do with my housekeeping abilities. The smell is coming from the ventilation pipes in the attic. The stink somehow comes into one of the hall closets and then seeps into the rest of the apartment. The scent is like sewer and dead animal, or something equally nauseating. Apparently the problem with the pipes has been fixed, however, the smell has been with us since last Monday and has not abated in the slightest.

{edit} People keep suggesting Febreze will get rid of the smell. Yes, under normal circumstances, it does work. However, in this case, Febreze cannot overpower this smell. It does absolutely nothing. I have tried it. Last night we kept the window in the computer room open, left the offensive closet door open as well, and turned on a fan to try to allow the smell to escape out the window. Well, it works a little, but the stink just comes back after the fan is turned off. 🙁

The sweet escape *

Jordan and I have been together one year now. Our anniversary was on Friday, and since both of us would be working that day, I took Saturday off so we could spend the day together. We were supposed to go swimming with Keesje and Krystal but had to cancel because both of us are sick.

Anyway, we didn’t do much Friday night. Saturday morning I made us French toast for breakfast. It snowed throughout the day; we got piles and piles of it! At some points all you could see was white in the air; everything else was blotted out by the swirling flakes.

We decided to go to Wal-Mart to get some more medicine and so out we drove in the terrible weather, slipping and sliding. As we turned very slowly to pull into the parking lot at Wal-Mart the truck just about hit the yellow striped yield sign for the median…he stopped just in time. “Whoa, where’d that come from?!” I could not stop laughing because all I remember is seeing the sign get closer and closer as we crept along into the turn and I was thinking, “Um, we are going to hit that,” and Jordan isn’t even noticing until the last minute. lol

I know I read a lot that day, and I remember Jordan played some video games, but I can’t seem to remember what else we did. o.O

SuperBowl on Sunday. A bunch of people that Jordan and Ryan work with came over to watch the game. Had some yummy nacho chip dip and shrimp ring. Andddd, that’s all for that weekend!
