Back in the beginning of July, my mom hosted a big party at the cottage. The party was to celebrate three things: my nephew Ashe’s 3rd birthday, Khloë’s 7 month milestone, and my brother Mark’s visit from Newfoundland.
Jordan, Khloë, and I spent a couple extra days before the party hanging out at the cottage. We slept in the guest cottage–the first time I’d slept in there in about five years!–and enjoyed the beautiful weather and laid-back atmosphere. The party came about three weeks after Khloë’s heart-wrenching diagnosis, so it was wonderful to get away for a mini-vacation.
Happy 3rd Birthday, Ashe!
All our friends and family came out on July 5th to celebrate with us! There was plenty of great food and of course lots of baked goodies courtesy of me. 😉 I even made Khloë a special chocolate pudding, which I think she enjoyed.
Keesje and I used last year’s “Thomas the Tank Engine” decorations and added in some Disney Princess bits n’ pieces for a girly touch! There were lots of outdoor toys for the kids, including a water table. Plus swimming and paddle-boating!
What a great party! I am so happy that everyone had a great time. Let’s do it again next summer!
I turned the big 30 this month. A little scary to think about, but I’m going to just let it slide on by. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of this birthday so I asked Jordan to take me to Marble Slab for an ice cream treat rather than doing anything fancy. A waffle bowl filled with a scoop of birthday cake, chai, and double dark chocolate ice cream, with pecans mixed in:

We celebrated another birthday this month. My nephew, Ashe, turned 1 year old on July 6th! We had a barbecue down at the cottage and some of my sister’s friends came to help celebrate this amazing milestone.

Back in May, my friend Nancy got married during the long weekend. My sister, Ashe, Jordan, and I drove up to attend the ceremony and reception. We stayed overnight in a hotel and then spent the holiday Monday doing some more visiting. Breakfast at Cora’s near the hotel, then a few hours at the Vaughn Mills mall so Keesje could visit with Shelley, and then finally a quick visit with our sister Crystal and her boyfriend Lukas in their new apartment. I realized I never wrote a post about that fun weekend so here are a few photos:

Until next time!
On June 18th, my mom and I threw a baby shower / BBQ for Keesje & Luc down at the cottage. It was a beautiful day after a week of rain. Family and friends came out for the occasion and we had some great food, fun, and games. Keesje was exactly 38 weeks pregnant that day. Her best friend was able to come down from Toronto for the day. And our brother Mark came up on the train from Kitchener. He broke his wrist a few days before in a bicycling accident–went over the handlebars!

They were given some great gifts and now they have pretty much everything they need for Baby Ashe! The nursery is all set up and Keesje just needs to put up some decorations. We are getting anxious for this baby to show up! Her due date is July 2nd, this Saturday, but I have a feeling the baby will be arriving late.

Another notable thing that happened this month is that I finally learned how to ride my dirt bike. Last year I had trouble with the clutch and kept stalling the bike. This time around I can’t seem to kick start it (Jordan has to do that part for me) but I can actually ride around on it. The neighbour let me ride around their field behind our house. Photo from my iPhone:

And Jordan’s parents drove down from New Brunswick at the end of May and stayed through the first few days of June. Unfortunately I had to work most of their visit, but I think they had a good time. The day before they left Jordan got us on a free boat cruise (through his work).

We are half-way through July! What a wonderful weekend this has been. On Thursday, the bridesmaids and bride-to-be met at a spa to have our nails done. The activity was quite pricey but our nails did look great afterward. And we got free parking because the parking meter was broken. We called the city to make sure we wouldn’t get a ticket! After that, I came home for lunch while Amy, her sister Danielle, and Pam left to steam the wedding dress.
Around 3 pm everybody, including some of Amy and Fred’s family, met at the wedding venue where the actual ceremony and reception would be taking place the next afternoon. The reception hall was made up beautifully and all the little details that Amy provided were perfect. We had a quick tour and then a run-through of the ceremony so that we would know our places. That all finished up quite quickly and we headed over to Fred’s brother’s home for a BBQ!

Friday morning we woke up to pouring rain. Luckily by the time we met up at the spa for our hair appointment, the rain had let up. Everyone’s hair turned out great! After inhaling lots of hair spray we drove over to Amy’s grandfather’s house to have our make-up done by an Aloette consultant. While we ate pizza, Colleen did a wonderful job doing our make-up. We did find ourselves quite behind schedule and had to quickly squeeze into our dresses before the photographer showed up!

Once we were ready we helped Amy into her dress without smearing any make-up and then we went outside to have some photos taken. Still behind schedule! Finally we got on our way to the venue and found ourselves in crazy traffic. Ah well, the wedding can’t start without the bride, and we bridesmaids had left before her! I don’t have any photos of the ceremony itself or from the university gardens where formal pictures were taken, but I do have quite a few of the reception.
I’m very happy that Amy’s day turned out well and the only thing that went wrong was Pam forgetting to bring Amy’s speech! But that issue was rectified by Pam’s downloading it on her BlackBerry. The sun came out to make us sweat but the evening did eventually cool off. The air conditioning in the venue was on but it was still very warm inside with the hot food and everyone dancing. I know Amy & Fred will be very happy together!
One more wedding to go!
March 15, 2011
I finally have all the official photos from Amy’s wedding so here are some of my favourites:
Just about all my flowers are dead. The lilac bloomed for a couple days, then died. Everywhere else has TONS of lilac, but noooooooo mine are gone already. My tulips have been destroyed by a huge weed that grew right up the middle of the plant. The phlox still looks pretty, and my lilies are getting taller but no blooms yet. My garden looks like crap already. Weeds are everywhere and I really don’t feel like doing anything about it anymore.
Jordan has been gone since Sunday. I miss him like crazy. I’ve been working a lot, but on my days off I don’t know what to do with myself. Six months to go…
Today Stacey, from work, came over and hung out with me today. We’re both the “quiet” girls, but we ended up talking for five hours and didn’t notice the time until it was 8 pm. We watched the movie “Post Grad” with Alexis Bledel; both of us liked it. I barbecued hamburgers for dinner and we ate outside at the patio table. It was a very nice day and I’m glad we got to spend some time together. It’s very rare for the two of us to have the same day off.
I cannot believe May is just about done. Less than two months to the Two Weddings. I still need my dress altered. Stacey’s shower is in a couple weeks. Then Amy’s bachelorette at the end of the month. And my youngest sister’s high school graduation. June is going to be a busy month, I think!
