So come on and fly with me *

Just finished watching “Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire” with my darling husband. Of course, I had to explain just about everything to him, but that’s okay because at least he watched it with me. 🙂

Sour cream spice cake with chocolate icing was a hit. I was a little hesitant when the recipe suggested using chocolate icing, but the combination is quite tasty! Jordan liked it and so did everyone at work. My first day back to work after holidays. A busy day; lots of work to catch up on.

On Thursday, I had my mom, Mike, and Keesje over for dinner. The night before I marinated a pork roast, and then in the morning tossed it into the slow cooker with some chopped potatoes. Smelled so good all day. Baked a vanilla pound cake. Then made caramelized carrots and onions for a side dish. Everyone enjoyed the food. This was the first time we’d had my mom and her spouse over for a sit-down meal so it was quite nice. Usually we call my dad over since he lives on his own and I like to feed him. It’s hard to get everyone at my mom’s house coordinated enough to come over for a visit.

I am off for another two days. What shall I bake this time?

When I look into your eyes, the sky’s a different blue *

I have upgraded to the newest version of WordPress. I can be so lazy about these sorts of things, but I figured I might as well just do it. Have to get used to the new look of the dashboard and I can’t figure out how to get an avatar.

Anyway, I’m on my second day off from work in a row. Yesterday I baked carrot cake with cream cheese icing, which turned out really good. Today I hope to make lava cupcakes with Jersey Milk chocolate as the centres.

I finished the book I was reading and ran upstairs to get the next one I wanted to read, only to discover that the book has disappeared. So far I am missing three books and I’ve already gone through the unpacked boxes looking for them, so I have a feeling they may have been lent out and I have no idea who has them. Quite possibly one of my parents? Argh.

I don’t have much planned for today. Probably will play TS2. I very rarely play the new game: The Sims 3. It’s an okay game, but I still prefer the old game and all its expansions, mostly because I like to play all different characters whereas in the new game it’s difficult to do that.

I’m thinking of doing a page about our wedding and posting photos. I don’t know when I’ll get to that, but it’s something I’d like to do eventually. The pictures turned out so lovely that I like to show them off. It’s hard to believe that Jordan and I have been married a month today! He’s out of town for a couple days, for work, so I’m on my own this week. Which pretty much means I need to deal with the daddy-longlegs spiders on my own! Eww, they really creep me out!

I watched “Enchanted” yesterday afternoon. A cute movie. Maybe today I’ll watch “The Kite Runner”. I’ve had it for awhile but still haven’t seen it.

Chocolate truffle cheesecake

Yesterday I barbecued hamburgers for the first time. Normally Jordan does the BBQ food, but he was mowing the lawn — which takes forever! He started up the BBQ for me and then I cooked the burgers and didn’t burn them! I even managed to cook up half a pack of bacon without too much trouble.

After dinner I baked a chocolate truffle cheesecake, which turned out lovely. No cracks on the top! I brought half the cake into work today and everyone devoured it. 🙂 I also had made a batch of peanut butter cookies, but saved those for Jordan and I at home.

Quite broke at the moment, with all the expenses this month and leading up to the wedding. Still waiting for our first electricity bill which I’m sure will be through the roof. But I’m enjoying the new house. We haven’t unpacked completely, nor have we had the time to decorate, but that will happen in due time. All I need is a bit of energy and a couple days off.

Wedding gown success and a cake hunt

I got my dress in Syracuse! I tried on nine gowns, each of them pretty in their own way, but as soon as I put on the ninth, I knew it was the dress for me. I’m so excited, it’s absolutely gorgeous, and I feel like a princess in it. Now all I need is the tiara!

My friend took a photo of me in each dress, so I will always have the memories! So much fun!

Kendra and I are going to look at cakes today. Mmmmm, cake!

The one with the gag-worthy stench

Just sitting here drinking a mug of tea. I ran out of tea bags two days ago and I have been dying for my daily dosage and now I’m enjoying a lovely tea. 🙂

I have been off work for a week, simply for the sake of not having to work during this slow time. Originally I had booked some of the last few days off so that I could spend time with Jordan during his birthday and our two year anniversary. However, plan went out window, because work sent him to Florida. Florida! Gah. Frustrating. But anyway, now he’s home, and I baked him a birthday cake, and we cuddled and watched an episode of “The Tudors: Season 1”.

We have a really disgusting smell in the apartment, and trust me, it has nothing to do with my housekeeping abilities. The smell is coming from the ventilation pipes in the attic. The stink somehow comes into one of the hall closets and then seeps into the rest of the apartment. The scent is like sewer and dead animal, or something equally nauseating. Apparently the problem with the pipes has been fixed, however, the smell has been with us since last Monday and has not abated in the slightest.

{edit} People keep suggesting Febreze will get rid of the smell. Yes, under normal circumstances, it does work. However, in this case, Febreze cannot overpower this smell. It does absolutely nothing. I have tried it. Last night we kept the window in the computer room open, left the offensive closet door open as well, and turned on a fan to try to allow the smell to escape out the window. Well, it works a little, but the stink just comes back after the fan is turned off. 🙁
