As I said in my previous post, I worked the Saturday of Easter weekend. When I got home we packed an overnight bag and headed to Ottawa to visit Jordan’s sister and her husband. They recently moved to Ontario from New Brunswick and at the time were staying in a hotel while waiting for the moving truck to show up. They invited us to stay the night in their suite and the next day we wandered around the city, playing tourists. We walked around Parliament Hill, some markets where I tried my first Beaver Tail (yum!), hung out on the roof-top garden at the closed mall, and purchased some books at the Chapters across the street.

I bought the new Sophie Kinsella book, Mini-Shopaholic, and another book I’ve been wanting to read for some time now: My Maasai Life (Robin Wiszowaty). I also checked out the Kobo e-readers on display and fell in love. 🙂 I am now a proud owner of one of these devices, and I absolutely love it!
Let’s see. On Sunday I worked until 6:30, which is an hour later than usual for that day of the week. Reason being “Friends & Family” night at work. When I got home, Jordan barbecued hamburgers for dinner. I love hamburgers. I could eat one every day as long as it was cooked on the BBQ.
A yummy hamburger
I found out that my darling husband crashed his motorcycle somewhere in town and gasoline spilled all over his clothing. He is okay, except for a nice scrape on his knee. We tried washing his clothes and jacket once on Sunday and twice Monday during the day, but they still came out of the wash smelling like gas. I decided to air the clothes outside on the line for awhile to see if that would lessen the stink, which it did somewhat. Did a bit of Googling and discovered that baby oil or Coca Cola gets out gas stains/smells, or white vinegar.
Tried the vinegar; didn’t work. Went out to a grocery store with Jordan and we picked up a bottle of Johnson’s baby oil, hit up Costco for some groceries, and came home to try again. One wash with the baby oil, and the smell is gone! Excellent.
Five lovely new books
While at Costco I bought some new books! They were ten or eleven dollars each, which is quite cheap for a lovely trade paperback book. I’m so excited to start reading!
I have decided to use a WordPress theme. This is a huge change to my domain, since normally I would create the layout and coding myself. I really don’t have the time to update layouts anymore, so I’ve decided to leave the site like this for awhile. I like the simplicity of this style, and I like how everything is nice and neat.
I’ve finished reading all of the 9 new books I purchased after Christmas. Now I can go back and re-read old books again. I’ve started on the Harry Potter series again. I’m on the second book and can’t stop laughing. I love Arthur Weasley. Okay, I love all the characters!
I also finished season six of “Reba”, which my youngest sister gave to me. I really love that show, it makes me laugh so much. But now what should I watch? Hmmm, maybe “Relic Hunter”.
Jordan got the package I sent to him. New socks, clean green T-shirts, cookies, a mirror so he can see his face while shaving, an electric razer, etc. I hope he gets good use out of those things in the next two weeks before they send him home!
I get a short phone call every couple days. Yesterday he woke me up at 6:30 am. One week down, many more to go.
I’ve been watching “How I Met Your Mother: Season 1”. My sister, Keesje, lent it to me. It’s quite entertaining!
Reading, reading, reading. Just finished The Glassblower of Murano by Marina Fiorata. It was alright. Before that, I loved Touch the Dragon (Karen Connelly) and The Boleyn Inheritance (Philippa Gregory). Now I have started Shan Sa’s Empress.
Happy New Year! First post of 2010, and hopefully I won’t be as lazy as last year and barely write anything. Well, yesterday after work I began my holidays. I go back on the 10th. Unfortunately, I’ve come down with my first cold of the new year. Nice luck, eh? Felt like absolute crap yesterday and so Jordan went out to celebrate without me while I crawled into bed with a bottle of Nyquil and The Sleeping Buddha (Hamida Ghafour). Fell asleep around 11 pm. I feel slightly better today, meaning my nose isn’t running like a faucet but I’m still sneezing and feel a little woozy.
