Mad as a hatter

I have been pretty busy at work. I am just about finished moving in the new towel line. It’s taken me longer than I expected, but the wall looks great and the colours are beautiful. I have the end cap empty, ready for the new shower curtains. Tomorrow I hope to finish getting the rest of the matching product out, and then I am off for a three-day weekend!

The house was a complete disaster when I came home. Washed all the dishes and threw in a load of laundry. It’s amazing how much tidier a house looks when the kitchen counters are clear of dishes and clutter. Now where to put all the stuff piled on the table? And what is for dinner?

Planning to have my cousin and her husband and two beautiful little girls over for a visit on Saturday. Near the end of this month they will be moving to Edmonton, due to her husband being posted. I will miss them. 🙁

Last weekend, Jordan and I took a day-trip to Ottawa which I forgot to write about. We tested out the Garmin GPS his parents gave us and it worked great. We went to a large bike store and found some dirt bike riding gear for myself. Ah yes, forgot to mention: Jordan thought it would be cool to buy me a dirt bike, so that we can go biking together. Since this is his favourite hobby and he’s already paid for it, I agreed I would at least try the sport. So now I’m all kitted out and ready for my first lesson. I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to this or not!

Also, Monday afternoon we decided to go see a movie. We very rarely go out to the theatre; I won’t go unless it’s a movie I know I will enjoy. We saw Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” in 3D and it was great! I really loved the movie and can’t wait until it comes out on DVD. I did have a headache by the end, though, from the 3D glasses, but it was worth it! 🙂

Return to Canada

Since Jordan left in the middle of January, we haven’t had much snow. Any snow that did accumulate usually melted by the next day. I am not a fan of shoveling the driveway; Jordan has always done it since we moved here. I was informed that he would be returning to Canada on the 26th. Unfortunately, the past three days we had a huge snowstorm and our driveway was quite deep. Plus the plows had been driving by all night, piling snow at the end of our driveway.

The morning of the 26th I resigned myself to the fact that I would actually have to shovel out the driveway, because if I couldn’t even get the truck OUT to go to work, how was he going to get a little Corolla IN? Anyway, the snow was really heavy and wet and after an hour I felt too sore and like I had barely moved any snow. Luckily, at that time a pick-up truck with a plow pulled up and pushed the snow away from the end of the driveway for me. I was so thankful! I managed to clear out a bit more snow, but then gave up. I then started to clear the snow off the truck and succeeded in breaking the windshield wiper on the driver’s side. Wonderful! I was quite frustrated by now. Off to Walmart for wipers. I didn’t have a clue what to buy, and had to get an associate from automotive to help me pick out the proper wiper. Then I rushed to work. And then left work early to rush home only to find out the flight time was changed to later in the night.

I tried waiting up for him but fell asleep 12:30 pm of the 27th. It wasn’t a deep sleep because I was half listening for car tires in the driveway. Finally he showed up around 3 am. I’m thankful he’s home and the lucky guy has a couple weeks off work. Now he has to unpack and do lots of laundry.

I just got back from a long day at work – a regular shift plus a staff meeting. We were fed pizza and pop, which was nice. Now for two days off.

I want your love and I want your revenge *

Oh I cannot wait until inventory is over. Bring on Wednesday! I am feeling very stressed out from all the extra work and trying to get everything prepared. Just have to get through tomorrow and we’re done. I’m so glad that this year we’re bringing in an actual inventory company rather than counting ourselves.

Miss my husband. I hope he comes home soon.

So come on and fly with me *

Just finished watching “Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire” with my darling husband. Of course, I had to explain just about everything to him, but that’s okay because at least he watched it with me. 🙂

Sour cream spice cake with chocolate icing was a hit. I was a little hesitant when the recipe suggested using chocolate icing, but the combination is quite tasty! Jordan liked it and so did everyone at work. My first day back to work after holidays. A busy day; lots of work to catch up on.

On Thursday, I had my mom, Mike, and Keesje over for dinner. The night before I marinated a pork roast, and then in the morning tossed it into the slow cooker with some chopped potatoes. Smelled so good all day. Baked a vanilla pound cake. Then made caramelized carrots and onions for a side dish. Everyone enjoyed the food. This was the first time we’d had my mom and her spouse over for a sit-down meal so it was quite nice. Usually we call my dad over since he lives on his own and I like to feed him. It’s hard to get everyone at my mom’s house coordinated enough to come over for a visit.

I am off for another two days. What shall I bake this time?

Staff party and Cuban pork

Figures it would snow on the first of December! By the looks of it, the snow has just about melted away and it’s not even noon. A bit of a relief, as this will be my first winter driving.

I had planned to go out to do some Christmas shopping today but I woke up with my neck hurting if I turn my head in either direction. May postpone shopping until tomorrow. I need to make up a gift list and plan out what stores to go to.

Dinner is in the slow cooker: Cuban pork tortilla roll-ups. Basically it’s pork marinated in lime juice, grapefruit juice, fresh garlic, and spices, layered over onions. Once it’s cooked, I’ll shred it so that we can make wraps with lettuce and tomato. I’ve never made it before but it smells really good. If it turns out, might invite Dad over for dinner!

Sunday night we celebrated our staff party at Raxx. Dinner was roast beef with glazed carrots and potatoes or chicken souvlaki with rice, flatbread, and dipping sauce. Jordan had the beef; I had the chicken. Had fun taking pictures, hanging out with everybody, watching people play pool, etc. Most of us dressed up nicely. I wore my pink V-neck sweater and the gold and diamond heart necklace Jordan gave me right before the party, for our four-month wedding anniversary (which is actually today). 🙂
